Job Description

Missions

Management of a high-resolution mass spectrometry system coupled with liquid chromatography, its environment and associated projects

Activity

• Overseeing and assisting with the handover and installation of the new system.
• Carrying out day-to-day maintenance of equipment to optimise uptime.
• Calibrating the instrument to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
• Managing consumables and maintenance contracts.
• Developing separation and analysis methods (including fragmentation) for a wide variety of molecule families in complex matrices.
• Processing data and drafting reports in both French and English.
• Training and supporting platform users in both French and English.
• Conducting scientific and technical monitoring to be able to:
o Propose future investments to expand and improve the system (columns, detectors, etc.)
o Build a library of methods (preparation, separation, analysis, data processing) tailored to the diversity of the platform's projects.
• Integration of the equipment into the rest of the REALCAT robotic platform:
o Implementing automated sample preparation processes using pipetting stations, for example.
o Implementing characterisation processes that combine the platform's other analytical techniques to supplement the characterisation data obtained (MALDI-TOF, HT-FT-IR, CHNOS, RAMAN, ICP-OES, XRD, XRF, etc.)

Your Profil

Skills

- Expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography
- Project management
- Teamwork
- English: minimum B2 level

Your Work Environment

WP5 of the CPER BiHautEcoAgro project focuses on biocatalysis and advanced multi-criteria analysis of chemical and biological compounds derived from the valorisation of natural resources. Its aim is to cover a wide range of topics, including sustainable production, the processing of natural resources, the chemistry of bio-based molecules and materials, the environment and ecology, as well as associated industrial safety issues.
The REALCAT equipment platform specialises in the development, characterisation, measurement and performance optimisation of biological, chemical and hybrid catalysts using high-throughput methods. As part of WP5, the platform has been provided with a high-resolution mass spectrometer coupled with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography to further enhance its analytical capabilities. The platform is currently lacking an expert in this field to manage all aspects relating to the equipment's use, maintenance and integration, as well as user training and the management of maintenance contracts and consumables. High-throughput analysis requires the platform's instruments to operate in tandem to avoid any bottlenecks in terms of speed. This means that mass spectrometry must be used in combination with other analytical methods and/or with sample preparation robots.

The analyses carried out are very varied due to the diversity of the research projects conducted on the platform – whether academic or industrial – and thus cover numerous families of biomolecules (metabolites, peptides, proteins, sugars, lipids, etc.) as well as small molecules from organic synthesis. The matrices in which these molecules are found at the end of reactions are often complex and require optimisation of sample preparation, separation methods and column selection, as well as the instrument's acquisition parameters.
