Job Description
Missions
Thermoplastic elastomers are specialties polymer that combine the elastomeric properties of vulcanized rubber to the processability of thermoplastics. They are often block copolymers, with "hard" and "soft" blocks. Branched polymers exhibit peculiar rheological and mechanical properties compared to their linear counterparts. The objective of this project funded by the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) is to develop a new family of thermoplastic elastomers that combine soft blocks with various degrees of branching to linear hard blocks, and to establish the relationships between their molecular structure, segregation state and properties at the molten and solid state.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher hired at the beginning of the project will design new block copolymers using notably coordination polymerization. The synthesis of transition metal-based catalysts may be required. Thermal and mechanical characterization of the final materials will also be conducted. The selected candidate will supervise a master student involved in the project, write publications and go to conferences to present her/his work.
Your Profil
Skills
Suitable candidates should have a PhD in chemistry with a solid background in organometallic chemistry / catalysis and be familiar with experimental work under controlled atmosphere (glove box, vacuum line, Schlenk techniques). Analytical skills notably NMR as well as experience in polymerization will be appreciated.
Your Work Environment
The work will be conducted at UCCS and UMET labs in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France.
