Job Description
Missions
Synthesis, Crystal Growth and Characterization of Mixed-Valence Tungsten Bronze-Type Inorganic Oxides: Structural Characterization and Magneto-Electrical Properties.
Activity
• Rational chemical modification of a recently discovered family of mixed-valence tungsten oxides.
• Crystal growth of relevant phases (with crystal sizes on the order of millimeters) using flux, chemical vapor transport (CVT), solvothermal methods, or electrochemical synthesis.
• Structural characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), neutron powder diffraction (NPD), and other techniques on powders and/or single crystals.
• Physical property measurements: Hall effect, magneto-transport, Seebeck coefficient, and magnetism.
• Reports and publications.

Your Profil
Skills
• The candidate should hold a PhD in Solid-State Chemistry or Materials Chemistry/Physics.
• Strong background in broad-spectrum inorganic synthesis, including diversification of synthetic approaches to overcome thermodynamic limitations. High-pressure synthesis (available on site) will also be a central aspect of the work.
• Expertise in crystal growth, primarily using flux methods, requiring a rational selection and diversification of the fluxes employed.
• Good knowledge of diffraction techniques and crystal chemistry.
• Experience with SQUID and/or PPMS systems is desirable.
Your Work Environment
The GEMOX project is positioned upstream of application-oriented research, with a focus on the discovery and chemical rationalization of emerging electronic phenomena (bulk crystals hosting two-dimensional electron gases) in the absence of localized magnetic moments. The project lies at the interface of synthetic chemistry, crystal growth, and characterization (CNRS Section 17).
Constraints and risks
-The radiation sources used (X-rays and neutrons) are strictly regulated, as are the safety procedures in the laboratories dedicated to synthesis. No specific risks need to be declared.
