Job Description
Missions
This project aims at green production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels obtained from lignin extraction. To reach this goal, it is proposed to study heterogeneous catalysts allowing the treatment of phenolic derivatives to produce long-chain aromatic chemicals by gas/liquid phase hydrodeoxygenation (HDO). The main challenge of this process is to develop selective (DDO-Direct Deoxygenation vs HYD-Hydrogenation pathways), efficient (conversion rate; low by-products inhibiting effect) and stable catalysts (limited impact of heavy products on active sites and surface functions). The project proposes to optimize this process by using low-cost materials such as supported transition metals (Mo, W, Fe, Co, Cu, Ni) dispersed phases (single atoms vs. nanoparticles, mono-/bimetallic NPs) over functional supports (oxophilic, acidic-modified silica surfaces).
Activity
- Developing new catalysts for lignin derivatives HDO
- Characterizing oxidic catalysts
- Carrying out batch catalytic tests under pressure to access the performances
- Carrying out gas phase chromatography techniques for products identification and quantification
- Analyzing all the results and position them in relation to the literature to propose advances
- Writing activity reports and presenting the results in conferences, writing publications
Your Profil
Skills
The researcher must have a Ph.D. in the field of chemistry, with a strong experience in heterogeneous catalysis, with knowledge of catalytic testing for biomass. Expertise in characterization of catalytic materials will be a strong asset for the candidate. Skills in gas chromatography will be appreciated.
Writing and speaking English is essential for writing papers and presenting results.
Your Work Environment
The Catalysis and Solid State Chemistry Unit (UMR 8181 CNRS) brings together about 115 researchers and research teachers, 40 technical and administrative support staff and an average of 80 PhD students and 20 post-doctoral researchers. The research activities are focused on energy, environmental protection and sustainable chemistry. The researcher will work on the Villeneuve-d'Ascq site and more particularly in the C4 building. The scientific activities of the Unit are deployed on three axes: heterogeneous catalysis, catalysis and molecular chemistry, solid state chemistry. Within the Heterogeneous catalysis axis, the researcher will work under the responsibility of the UCCS researchers, Jean -Philippe Dacquin, Pascal Blanchard and Carole Lamonier.
