Missions
The research contract focuses on analyzing so-called vigilante justice movements in the French overseas departments (Mayotte and Réunion). The researcher will be responsible for collecting and analyzing qualitative data (interviews and observations) relating to self-justice movements in Mayotte and Réunion. In addition to this research work, he/she will be required to participate in the scientific orientation of the project.
Activités
- Empirical work within the framework of the FRANJU project (40%)
* Review of the literature on the subject.
* Scientific and media monitoring on the subject.
* Semi-structured interviews and observations with actors involved in vigilante justice initiatives that fall within at least two of the three areas of the project (property protection, anti-immigration, and moral policing).
- Analytical work and evaluation of the materials collected (30%)
* Analysis of qualitative data.
* Promotion of research through at least two significant scientific publications.
- Contribution to collective research dynamics (10%)
* Participation in the scientific life of the project (meetings, research seminars, study days).
* Participation in the scientific life of the IRIS (research seminars)
- Development of one's own career (20%)
Compétences
- Degree: PhD in political science, sociology, or anthropology
- Knowledge: good knowledge of the state of the literature and research on vigilantism and self-justice issues, specializing in overseas territories
- Skills: proficiency in qualitative research methods, strong writing skills
- Interpersonal skills: previous experience in collaborative research, ability to work independently in the field
Contexte de travail
The 20-month contract is attached to IRIS under the scientific responsibility of Mathilde Darley (CNRS – IRIS) and in scientific partnership with Benoît Trépied (CNRS – IRIS). It is part of the ANR-25-CE53-5127 FRANJU (France justicière) project on practices of self-justice in metropolitan France and overseas territories, coordinated by Gilles Favarel-Garrigues (CNRS – CERI).
