Missions

Research Engeneer in African Linguistics: scientific coordination of a multidisciplinary team for the comparative study of Bangime, Dogon, and West African languages, within the framework of a European research project (The Small Bang). The Research Assistant will also support other components of the project, including linguistic documentation, lexical comparison, and, in due course, coordination with interdisciplinary strands (genetics, history, anthropology).

Activités

• Scientific coordination and planning within the project (schedule management, forward planning), team coordination.
• Follow-up of scientific research across the linguistic components of the project (grammars, lexicon, documentation).
• Participation in establishing interdisciplinary collaborations (e.g., with genetics team).
• Monitoring of scientific developments in the field.
• Scientific organization of project events (coordination with UCAD, management of speakers, preparation of the program and workshops).

Compétences

• PhD in African linguistics, specializing in West African languages for comparison with Bangime.
• Good knowledge of Senegal.
• Strong communication, coordination, initiative, and management skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Coordination experience.
• Fieldwork experience.
• Knowledge of and ability to use Wolof recommended.

Contexte de travail

The position is based in Villejuif, with a significant portion of time spent in Senegal. It will be affiliated with the CNRS, France's leading research organization. The position is assigned to the LLACAN laboratory (Language and Literatures of Africa), a dynamic community of researchers engaged in world-class research on African languages. LLACAN is located in the southern suburbs of Paris (accessible by metro and other means of public transport).
