Missions

In close and constant collaboration with our research team specialized in African linguistics, dedicate its work force to our research unit's two flagship digital poles:
1) linguistic and technical expertise to steer the enrichment of the RefLex database and reach our objective of maximum coverage of African languages as quickly as possible (1147 languages already present, objective: reach 2739 indexed to date).
2) linguistic and technical expertise to act as a bridge between researchers and the development team for our oral corpus processing tools (Elan, CorpOrAn), provide training and support for researchers, identify changing needs and contribute linguistic expertise to the creation of new tools.

Activités

- Propose an approach adapted to the development of our data processing tools and the needs of researchers
- Design and manage the resulting research support system
- Implement methods or protocols for data or corpus collection, train researchers to analyze and interpret results
- Develop and formalize methods for producing or analyzing data or corpora.
- Design query and interface tools between different databases or corpora
- Participate in or lead internal or external professional networks for the valorization of related research results.
- Analyze external requests and assess their relevance to scientific orientations.
- Participate in or coordinate responses to calls for tender.
- Transfer skills as part of training programs (continuing education, research training, student training).
- Promote achievements and results in the form of scientific publications, reports, oral presentations, etc.
- Contribute to reflection on techniques and methods
- Design and implement a scientific and methodological watch

Compétences

- Field linguistics (Africa), natural language field data processing (minority languages)
- Knowledge of the RefLex database (comparison tools, statistical tools, input standards)
- Proficiency in corpus processing tools (Praat, FLEx, Toolbox)
- In-depth knowledge of Elan (Max Planck) and ElanCorpA tools
- Expertise in field data enhancement and long-term archiving platforms (Cocoon, CorpOrAn)
- Knowledge of emerging data processing and analysis tools (collaborative corpus annotation, regular expressions, treebanks, etc.)
- Legal and deontological framework for field data (ethical framework in particular)
- Written and oral presentation techniques
- English language: C1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

- Develop collection tools (framework for collecting oral corpora in the field)
- know how to operate a database (data manipulation, extraction of relevant data, merging of databases)
- Know how to locate, list, prioritize, analyze and criticize data (assess the relevance of data or sources).
- Teaching and knowledge transfer skills
- Formalize techniques and methods for processing oral and lexical corpora
- Ability to lead and direct a work group, while respecting the competencies of each member
- Write reports and documents
- Draw up specifications
- Significant experience in an externally-funded research team project would be a plus.
