Post-doctoral contract within the European Research Project: "Le Petit Bang". The position will allow a researcher who specializes in the field of West African languages to explore and compare the typological profiles of the languages of the Bandiagara cliff with other West African languages, notably the Gur languages.
The research activity will focus on the lexicon and the typology of Bandiagara Mountain languages and how Bangime fits into this sphere. Specifically, tasks include an in-depth study and comparison of Bangime pronouns and word order patterns that appear to be both typologically unusual and unique to the language compared to other languages spoken along and around the Bandiagara Cliff (e.g., Dogon, Gur, and Songhay languages). In addition, lexical data from Dogon and Gur languages will need to be incorporated into the Bangime comparative lexical database.
- A PhD in African Linguistics;
- Significant research experience with in-depth knowledge of Dogon and Gur languages;
- Capacity to publish in international peer-reviewed journals;
- Ability to present at international conferences;
- Keen interest in the Bandiagara Mountain languages.
