Job Description

Missions

The researcher will conduct, both individually and collaboratively, a study of salespeople in the luxury sector in the Paris region. This study will form part of a sociological examination of the internationalization of class relations in the workplace.

Activity

The researcher hired will contribute to all stages of the study, from fieldwork preparation to the dissemination of results. He or she will conduct interviews and observations in the luxury retail sector in Paris and will help lead a collaborative study by supporting and supervising some students. He or she will also take part in analyzing the qualitative data collected and in drafting the project's academic outputs. Finally, he or she will contribute to the design of a survey questionnaire on international workplace practices by helping to define the themes, develop the questions, and structure the survey tool. This position offers the opportunity to engage in a collaborative research project, develop expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, and contribute to research on contemporary changes in the world of work within a stimulating and collaborative research environment.

Your Profil

Skills

The successful candidate must have a solid knowledge of the sociology of work and the sociology of social relations of domination, particularly class, gender, and race. He or she must be proficient in qualitative research methods, including conducting interviews, observation, and ethnographic research, as well as the main stages of qualitative data analysis. The ability to contribute to the design of a survey is expected, as is an interest in integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches. The successful candidate must also demonstrate strong teamwork skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, and be able to contribute to a collaborative research project alongside other team members.

Your Work Environment

The Centre Maurice Halbwachs was established on January 1, 2006, and moved to its current location on the campus of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, at 48 Boulevard Jourdan, later that same year. It resulted from the merger of a laboratory formerly specializing in making INSEE surveys available and in the longitudinal analysis of data (LASMAS) and the École Normale Supérieure's Laboratory of Social Sciences. Operating under the joint supervision of four institutions (ENS, EHESS, CNRS, and INRAE), the CMH has been directed since January 2025 by Anne Lhuissier (Director at INRAE). This is a full-time position. The projected distribution of activities is as follows: 70% of working time will be devoted to research tasks conducted as part of the ANR project, and 30% to promoting the researcher's work, particularly through scientific dissemination, publication, and support for communication and outreach initiatives. The researcher will have a workspace in a shared office, a computer, and access to the ENS-Jourdan library as well as the CMH's scientific facilities and activities.
