Within the framework of the ANR MAYACOSTA project, "Exchanges and Transfers of Prestige Goods between the Maya and Costa Rican Regions between 300 BC and 700 AD," the successful candidate will conduct a microscopic study of the manufacturing traces on a selection of greenstone objects and mirror bases from the Maya region and Costa Rica. The aim is to determine the different lapidary traditions characteristic of each region and to identify any copies or repolishings. To analyze the artifacts without moving them, we have applied a non-invasive and non-destructive replication method for objects in museums using cellulose diacetate segments. The cellulose diacetate samples are already available in France and ready for study.
