Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will work with Ananyo Maitra on understanding the dynamics and statistics of topological defects in active systems, using continuum theories of active ordered states. This project will require both numerical and analytical work.
The position will be based at LPTM, part of CY Cergy Paris University. The postdoctoral researcher will also collaborate closely with Cesare Nardini, based at CEA Saclay.

Activités

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct analytical and numerical research on the dynamics of topological defects in active ordered phases, such as hexatics, in particular, focusing on their interactions. We will also examine the dynamics of topological defects in active systems in response to external cues such as density gradients. Finally, we will combine these two axes of research and examine phase-separating active fluids in which the dense phase forms a defect-riddled ordered state.

Compétences

Candidates must have a PhD in theoretical physics, preferably in soft matter physics. They should be able to perform both analytical and numerical calculations.
Experience with analytical or numerical modelling of active systems is desired. Experience with continuum/ hydrodynamic theories of such systems is a plus.
Finally, a good command of spoken and written English is required.

Contexte de travail

The researcher will be based in Laboratoire de Physique Théorique et Modélisation, in CY Cergy Paris Université. This is located in Cergy-Pontoise and is connected to Paris via multiple frequent commuter train lines.
