Job Description

Missions

a) Design and implementation of the case study titled “The (Im)possibility of Movement” as part of the Art-e-Fact program under the direction of Alice Sophie Sarcinelli ; b) production of publications and multimodal documents resulting from the research. The multi-site study will be conducted in Arab and European countries where members of the Palestinian diaspora reside, subject to approval of travel arrangements by the relevant university authorities. The study will draw on both classic ethnographic and visual methods.

Activity

-Conducting a multi-sited ethnographic ethnographic case study titled “The (Im)possibility of movement”
-Producing multimodal materials derived from the research, which will be made available through the program's digital library at https://ethno-graphies.huma-num.fr/s/art-e-fact/page/accueil
- Co-organizing “Thinking-Through-Creating Workshops” with the project coordinator

Your Profil

Skills

-Theoretical and practical expertise in the anthropology of the Arab world;
- Language skills: fluency in Syrian-Lebanese Arabic, French, and English
- Experience with ethnographic research methods, preferably with prior fieldwork experience on the subject;
- At least two years of postdoctoral experience abroad;
- Experience with visual and creative practices applied to ethnographic research

Your Work Environment

The project will be carried out as part of the ANR Art-e-Fact project (Creative Approaches to Ethnographic Data on Institutions (https://www.cerlis.eu/anr-art-e-fact/)), coordinated by Alice Sophie Sarcinelli—an associate professor of anthropology at Université Paris Cité and affiliated with the CERLIS Joint Research Unit). The postdoctoral research will be supervised by Alice Sophie Sarcinelli and Natacha Collomb (CNRS, IDEAS), who is responsible of Task No. 3, “Fieldwork.”

Constraints and risks

Mission abroad within the European Union and in countries in the Arab world are to be planned depending on how the geopolitical situation evolves.
