Missions

This recruitment is part of the RECAPTED ADD project, funded by the FEAMPA (European Maritime and Fisheries Fund). This project aims to develop solutions adapted to Caribbean artisanal fisheries to limit the accidental capture of sea turtles through the use of acoustic deterrent systems (ADDs).
The recruited individual will be responsible for analyzing data from field campaigns to evaluate 1) the effectiveness of acoustic deterrent systems on the accidental capture of sea turtles and on the capture of target species, and 2) identify and map the risk of interactions between sea turtles and fishing gear.

Activities

Main tasks:
- Processing accelerometric/gyroscopic and acoustic signals related to the fine behaviors of sea turtles
- Developing innovative machine learning methods to analyze the sounds associated with these behaviors
- Automating the processing of audio and visual data to optimize the quantity and quality of results
- Sea tests of the acoustic deterrent device
- Data analysis and article writing

Skills

- Advanced expertise in ecology, particularly in sea turtle ecology and Caribbean coastal marine ecosystems.
- Advanced expertise in biostatistics and spatial data analysis.
- Expertise in machine learning.
- Advanced expertise in signal processing (accelerometric/gyroscopic and acoustic).
- Experience writing scientific articles and presenting at international conferences.

Work Context

The project will take place within the UMR BOREA (Dr. Damien Chevallier, UMR CNRS 8067) in Martinique.
