Missions
The Scientific Lead will coordinate research and conservation activities under the compensatory measures associated with the GPMLM port expansion project, pursuing an integrated and sustainable approach to restoring coral reefs and the associated ecosystem services. They will also be responsible for developing complementary research projects and contributing to their implementation (notably BestLife 2030 – the RECIF project).
Activités
Coordination of the scientific program linked to the CNRS–GPMLM experimental platform for reef function conservation.
• Coordination: leading the experimental platform; supervising a postdoctoral researcher on the micro-fragmentation of Caribbean coral species; implementing research programs.
• Needs assessment: clarifying scientific, logistical, and infrastructure requirements for effective program deployment, including optimisation of the research infrastructure.
• Scientific planning: developing a research program focused on reef conservation/restoration; identifying research priorities; and adapting research methods to regional specificities (coral micro-fragmentation, ecological indicators, photogrammetry).
Compétences
Knowledge
Education: PhD in tropical marine ecology, coral biology, or a related field.
Experience: Solid track record in managing marine research and conservation projects, specifically within Caribbean reef ecosystems. Proven experience coordinating scientific networks and implementing applied research programs.
Technical Skills
Mastery of coral reef restoration methods and in-depth knowledge of anthropogenic pressures on tropical marine ecosystems.
Expertise in ecosystem services assessment, use of GIS, conceptual modeling, and multivariate statistical tools.
Thorough knowledge of Martinique's coastal environments and of watershed–coastal zone interactions in an island context.
Interpersonal Skills
Strong organisational abilities, leadership, and aptitude for teamwork and network collaboration.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and ideally in English.
Contexte de travail
Under the auspices of the GPMLM and in partnership with the CNRS, the Scientific Lead will be responsible for the implementation and oversight of the scientific program for assessing, protecting, and restoring reef ecosystems in the Fort-de-France Bay.This position is a part-time 5O %
Contraintes et risques
humid/saline environment; handling/moderate loads; rotating 24/7 on-call duty (alarms); off-hours interventions in case of alerts; diving/fieldwork (subject to certifications).
