Missions

Characterization of the molecular and cellular functions of human RNA-modifying enzymes that are involved in the maturation and translation of mRNA. As mutations in some of these enzymes are responsible for intellectual disorders, you will also study their role in animal brain development in close collaboration with a team located nearby Paris.

Activités

A large panel of experimental approaches is implemented in the laboratory: biochemistry (protein or RNA expression and purification, enzymology, pull-down, ...), cell biology (CRISPR-Cas9 gene deletion, co-immunoprecipitation, RNA purification from human cell lines, ...) and structural biology (X-ray crystallography). Access to a mass spectrometry facility for nucleoside analysis is also available.
You will perform cell biology experiments to characterize the effect of CRISPR-Cas9 depletion of certain proteins on cellular processes such as protein synthesis, cell signaling...

Compétences

The successful candidate should hold a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry.
An interest in RNA translation as well as knowledge of RNA purification, confocal microscopy, luciferase-based assays, ribosome profiling or RNAseq will be highly appreciated.
Ability to work in a team and with external collaborators expected.

Contexte de travail

A 2 years ANR funding for a post-doc is available in Dr Marc Graille's team at the Laboratory of Structural Biology of the Cell at the Ecole Polytechnique (CNRS, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, Palaiseau, France). More information on our website: https://portail.polytechnique.edu/bioc/en/research/coupling-between-translation-and-mrna-degradation-eukaryotes

The Structural Biology of the Cell Laboratory is located on the multidisciplinary campus of Ecole Polytechnique, one of the most selective and prestigious French "Grandes Ecoles", which attracts the best students from all over the world. Ecole Polytechnique is located 25 km south of Paris and has regular train connections (every 10 minutes) with the center of Paris (40 minutes).
The campus offers all the necessary facilities to practice various activities (music, theater, ...) or sports. More information about the campus is available at: http://www.polytechnique.edu/en

Knowledge of English (scientific, oral and written) is necessary, but knowledge of French is not essential as the team regularly welcomes people from different countries. Enthusiasm, motivation and willingness to contribute to a dynamic and pleasant working environment are very important qualities.
The candidate must be autonomous, but successful integration into the team's projects is essential. The position is open immediately but the start date is flexible depending on your availability.
