Missions

This mission is part of an ANR project (international with Germany) focusing on the study of density fluctuation dynamics and the impact of flows on the saturated state of turbulence in fusion plasmas. More specifically, the project includes the design and implementation of a new microwave diagnostic on the WEST tokamak (Cadarache). This system, called a poloidal correlation reflectometer, will be developed in collaboration with our German partners and will provide access to the dynamics of larger-scale fluctuations compared to the Doppler reflectometry system already in operation on WEST. The combined interpretation of these two systems will be used to access the dispersion relation of the instabilities underlying the saturated state of turbulence responsible for the performance of actual fusion plasmas.

Activités

- Key participation in the design and implementation of a poloidal correlation reflectometry system.
- Prepare, test and use data processing tools for this new system
- Interpretation of results and comparison with theoretical predictions
- Writing and presentation of the results of this study

Compétences

- Education and experience in plasma physics and/or microwave measurement systems
- Ability in time-frequency signal processing.
- Python programming applied to analysis tools.
- Communication and teamwork skills.
- Autonomy, organizational skills and ability to report

Contexte de travail

The mission is part of a collaboration between the LPP/Ecole Polytechnique and the CEA/IRFM. The Fusion Plasmas team of LPP develops a program of experimental and theoretical study of turbulence in fusion plasmas by magnetic confinement. The team builds versatile diagnostics, based on the scattering of electromagnetic waves in the optical and microwave ranges (Doppler reflectometry), installed on the WEST tokamak in Cadarache and the TCV tokamak (Swiss Plasma Center, EPFL).

The “Institut de Recherches sur la Fusion Magnétique” in Cadarache operates the WEST tokamak (for "Tungsten (W) Environment in Steady-state Tokamak") and conducts theoretical and experimental developments in preparation for operation on ITER.

The position is located on the CEA Cadarache site.
