Missions

Study by numerical simulations the interaction of Mercury's magnetosphere with solar events

Activities

- Get used to a 3D hybrid code existing for different solar wind conditions
- Develop routines allowing to charaterize different plasma parameters of Mercury's magnetosphere and its boundaries under different solar wind conditions
- Develop routines allowing to generate an interplanetary shock and its interaction with Mercury's magnetosphere
- Develop routines allowing to characterize the strdture and dynamics of planetary ions
- Archive numerical results in an interoprable public database
- Write scientific articles and communicate the results in conferences and seminars

Skills

The candidate will have the title of PhD in plasma physics, fluid physics, astrophysics or general physics with the following expertises:
- Knowledge in plasma physics appreciated,
- Experience in numerical simulations
- Knowledge in programming languages, F90, Python, appreciated, Connaissance de
- Be fluent in written and spoken English
- Ability to communicate and write scientific articles
- Ability to team work

Work Context

This work is part of a Research Initiative of Sorbonne University. It rests on a collaboration between LPP (UMR 7648, https://www.lpp.fr/) and LATMOS (UMR 8190, http://www.latmos.ipsl.fr/). The purpose aims to prepare the interpretation of plasma observations from two instruments achieved by these two laboratories for the space mission BepiColombo launched in 2018 towards Mercury. The candidate will interact with the teams of Space Plasmas at LPP (about 20 researchers) and HEPPI at LATMOS (about 12 researchers).
