Missions
From the hairs on our skin to the microscopic cilia in our respiratory tract, aggregates of slender, deformable structures in contact with fluids are ubiquitous in nature. When these elastic fibers are tightly packed, they form a porous medium that can act as a particle filter. However, this porous medium has deformable pores, as the elastic fibers can bend in response to flow. These deformations alter the size and geometry of the pores, as well as the overall dimensions of the porous medium, and therefore have an impact on filtration.
Activités
The postdoctoral researcher will construct and analyze the results of model experiments involving channels with elastic obstacles and study their deformation under suspension flow. He/she will also model these experimental systems theoretically and will be encouraged to develop his/her own research topics in hydrodynamics/soft matter.
Compétences
The candidate must have a PhD in fluid mechanics, soft matter physics, or equivalent. Ideally, he/she will have experience in both experimental and theoretical work. In particular, experience in rapid prototyping, image analysis, and modeling of complex hydrodynamic systems is a plus.
Contexte de travail
The LadHyX (Laboratory of Hydrodynamics) is a joint research unit of the CNRS and Ecole Polytechnique (UMR 7646) located in Palaiseau, near Paris, France. It conducts theoretical, numerical, and experimental research in fundamental and applied fluid dynamics. The postdoctoral researcher will be funded by the ANR FiltHairs contract (https://anr.fr/Projet-ANR-24-CE30-5885).
