Missions
Coupling to cavity photons offers a novel approach to control properties of materials. Another exciting application of light is using it for generating non-trivial band topology. Topological phases of matter in the context of condensed matter physics constitute a prominent research field thanks to theoretical predictions of topological insulators and superconductors due to their potential application in quantum technologies and quantum computing. Another source of cavity control can arise from the hybridization with finite - frequency modes, leading to new hybrid quasiparticles – polaritons, which can be probed and controlled in novel ways. The goal of the project is to study how to characterise topological properties of polaritons formed by topological superconductors coupled to photons. This requires a development of new approach of calculating the many-body energy states of hybrid fermion-boson systems and defining topological invariants.
