Job Description
Missions
Demonstrate the effect of vibrational excitation on the kinetics and products of an electrochemical reaction
Activity
- Preparation of three types of ultrathin gold films on silicon: films formed from dense monolayers of gold nanoparticles, continuous gold films, and micrometric gold antennas. These films will be synthesized electrochemically or by optical lithography.
- Decoration of the gold films with electrocatalysts via electrochemical methods: the catalysts will be chosen according to the electrochemical reaction being studied.
- Optical simulations of plasmons in the thin films.
- Design of a specific electrochemical cell to allow normal electrochemical operation under infrared irradiation, without limitations due to ion scattering or electrolyte conductivity.
- Implementation of the optical experiment, by coupling infrared lasers to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer.
- Electrochemical and spectroscopic measurements under infrared irradiation. The two electrochemical reactions studied, the release of O₂ and the reduction of CO₂, are important for the ecological transition.
- Data analysis. - publishing articles and writing reports.

Your Work Environment
The Condensed Matter Physics (PMC) laboratory is one of the 22 laboratories at the École Polytechnique research center, working at the forefront of knowledge on major interdisciplinary scientific, technological, and societal challenges. The laboratory comprises 40 permanent staff (including 14 researchers, 9 professors, and 17 technical and administrative staff) and 30 non-permanent staff.
The successful candidate will be part of the ECM (Electrochemistry and Thin Films) team, which consists of 6 permanent researchers. He/she will work closely with 4 researchers from the laboratory involved in the project: 2 from the ECM team and 2 from EPS (Electrons-Photons-Surfaces) experimental physics team.
The position is located in Palaiseau (Essonne) at the École Polytechnique research center.
