Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the QCMX team studying quantum circuits and matter within LPMC. He/She will work within the framework of the HYGRAQ project, funded by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) whose aim is to study the nature of superconductivity in multilayer graphene. In particular, this project aims at determining the superconducting gap symmetry of superconducting graphene.
Activity
The post-doctoral researcher will be involved in designing, and fabricating samples suitable to measure the kinetic inductance of superconducting graphene multilayer compounds. This will involve the design and simulation of superconducting circuits architectures, realizing stacks of 2D-materials, specifically bilayer graphene with WS2 or WSe2 encapsulated in hBN. In addition, he/she will be in charge of conducting the measurements at cryogenic temperatures and analysis of the gathered data on such hybrid superconducting circuits. The design and measurement techniques will be validated on a preliminary experiment with high kinetic inductance superconducting nanowires in place of the superconducting graphene.
It is expected that both the preliminary experiment on nanowires and the study on superconducting graphene will each lead to a publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidates must hold a doctorate in experimental solid-state physics and proven research skills evidenced by previous research activities relating to the subject or activities of the project. Other essential criteria for this post are a sound knowledge of low-noise electronic measurements at cryogenic temperatures, demonstrable experience in 2D-materials stacking, ideally with experience either in electronic transport or microwave measurements.
Candidates must have a very positive attitude to working in a team, and have a high ability to communicate their work effectively. Finally, fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.
Your Work Environment
PMC is one of 22 laboratories located at the Ecole polytechnique research centre working on the frontier of knowledge on the major interdisciplinary scientific, technological and societal issues.
Within the Teaching and Research Department of Ecole polytechnique, PMC (Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée) is a mixed research unit (Ecole polytechnique/CNRS) whose work is organized around two fundamental topics that are the nanosciences and the physics of Irregularity.
We try to understand the solid, liquid or intermediate states (gel, pastes, foams…)of matter (structure, properties, phenomena of sets related to the interactions between the particles that compose it), the condensed matter physics is a science that is upstream of innumerable technological advances.
Constraints and risks
Short periods of travel within France and abroad should be expected for workshops or conferences. Such travels may occur once a year.
