The project proposes to lead critical developments in the open source and high performance code Smilei in order to overcome numerical challenges and provide higher quality simulation data.
The main objective is to introduce a multi-resolution capability in the code in order to accurately describe the electron bunch without weighing down the rest
of the simulation with an unnecessary high resolution.
In a PIC code, this can be achieved via a multi-level multi-domain (MLMD) technique coupled to efficient open boundary conditions.
The work will start by the design and implementation of such conditions for the multiple geometries and solvers supported by Smilei.
Eventually, MLMD will be implemented based on the already existing multi-decompositions capability.
Additionally, as soon as the newly implemented features are validated, they will be used for scientific production in collaboration with our experimental partners.
- Lead the development and integration of two critical numerical methods in the open source simulation code Smilei (PML and MLMD)
- Simulate and analyse laser wakefield acceleration experiments with Smilei.
- Participate to other developments and activities of the Smilei team (documentation, visualization, continuous integration, training ... )
- C++; Python
- Experience with parallel codes (MPI and/or openMP).
- Plasma physics
The postdoctoral fellow will be hosted for two years at the Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR, Ecole polytechnique, France).
As a young researcher, he must have defended his PhD at most 2 years prior to the begining of the contract.
He will be part of the GALOP team ( Groupe pour l'Accélération par Laser et Onde Plasma), ideally located to interact with both the \smilei team and the experimental partners.
The successful candidate is expected to become an active member of the \smilei team and, as such, to participate to other developments he has interests for.
