Job Description
Missions
The team, consisting of Antonin Eddi (CR CN) and Stéphane Perrard (CR CN), is conducting research at the PMMH laboratory on the physics of sea ice (formation, interaction with waves, mechanical and thermodynamic characterization), combining laboratory experiments with field missions in Canada. As part of this effort, we are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to further these activities and participate in the Cascades26 campaign organized by Amundsen Science (November 2026) in the Baffin Sea.
Activity
The postdoctoral researcher will participate in the research team's activities.
In the laboratory, the focus will be on developing model experiments to provide a physical description of the phenomena involved in the formation, consolidation, and fragmentation of sea ice. These experiments will primarily address mechanical aspects (the rheology of frazil) and changes in air-water heat exchange associated with the formation of an ice layer. The successful candidate will actively participate in supervising the team's three Ph.D. students.
In the field, the postdoctoral researcher will participate in the Cascades26 expedition (co-organized by Amundsen Science, the SPI, and the IPEV) aboard the Amundsen for four weeks (November 2026) in the Baffin Sea. Within the Mizof project, the postdoctoral researcher will be responsible, in particular, for measurements related to air-ocean exchanges by characterizing the turbulent aspects of flows in the air column and the liquid column.
