Missions

The post-doc will conduct a project in the laboratory to experimentally explore and understand the non-linear evolution of surface waves generated by wind on the surface of a viscous liquid.

Activities

As a first task the post-doctoral fellow will have to measure the downstream evolution of the frequency and wavelength of the waves under the action of the wind.
He or she will have to carry out the experiments and will also be fully involved in the analysis of the data, their interpretation, their comparison with existing theoretical formalisms and the writing of publications.

Skills

The required skills are:
- Autonomy in the management of an experimental research project in non-linear physics,
- Ability to interpret experimental data in relation to known theoretical descriptions of systems,
- Advanced knowledge in fundamental fluid mechanics and non-linear physics.

Expected skills in:
- Image acquisition and optical profilometry techniques
- Massive data analysis under Matlab.

Work Context

This post-doc position will be carried out within the "Instability, Waves and Turbulence" team of the FAST laboratory in Orsay under the joint supervision of F. Moisy and M. Rabaud, both professors at Paris-Saclay University.

Constraints and risks

Use of a laser for visualization.
