Missions

The successful candidate will join the TARANIS project team working on inertial confinement projects. In this role, he/she will work within the LULI theoretical group (TIPS) to optimize the direct attack implosion scheme. This position is critical to the success of the TARANIS project

Activités

The tasks of the person recruited will be:

• Optimizing the illumination of the capsule
• Designing a very high-gain direct attack implosion
• Developing a reduced model of laser-matter interaction

This list of activities is neither exhaustive nor restrictive.

Compétences

Skills (minimum 4):
- Plasma physics
- Inertial confinement fusion
- Numerical modeling using radiative hydrodynamics code
- Linux, bash, C/C++, and Python environments

Skills (minimum 4):
- Writing reports
- Oral presentations
- English (B1)
- Analyzing data

Interpersonal skills (minimum 4):
- Adaptability and creativity
- Independence
- Teamwork
- Flexibility
- Ability to learn independently and develop skills

The candidate must be able to work in a team on multidisciplinary projects. Applications must include a detailed CV; at least two references (people who can be contacted); a one-page cover letter.

Contexte de travail

The mission will be carried out at the LULI laboratory. LULI (Laboratory for the Use of Intense Lasers) is a joint research unit (CNRS, École Polytechnique, CEA, Sorbonne University, UMR 7605), located on the École Polytechnique campus (Palaiseau), at Orme des Site des Merisiers (Saclay) and on the Jussieu campus of Sorbonne University in Paris. The laboratory has a staff of 100 (65 engineers and technicians and 35 researchers). LULI is an academic research center and training center in hot plasma physics and laser optics. The LULI laboratory provides the scientific community with laser chains and competitive experimental resources suitable for research into the physics of hot and dense plasmas created by lasers.

The position is part of the TARANIS project led by a CEA/Thales/CNRS consortium. This project, supported by the BPI for three years, aims to define the basis for an inertial fusion reactor. This project, which is the result of a private/public partnership, is initially funded for a period of three years, with an evaluation at the end of this period that may lead to further funding for five years

The position is subject to the rules of the Protection of Scientific and Technical Potential (PPST); its occupation is subject to prior authorisation from the competent authority.

Contraintes et risques

The postdoctoral fellowship will take place at the LULI premises at École Polytechnique.
Travel to partner laboratories or to conferences/workshops in France and abroad will be required.
