Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will participate in a cell biology research project aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of chromosome segregation in human cells and in the oocytes and embryos of C. elegans.
Activity
The position is open for recruitment at the Jacques Monod Institute (IJM) in the “Cell Division & Reproduction” team led by Julien Dumont. The team studies the mechanisms of chromosome segregation in human cells, as well as in oocytes and early-stage embryos of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. At the heart of this process lies the kinetochore, an essential structure that allows chromosomes to attach to the cellular machinery responsible for separating them. Its proper functioning is crucial for ensuring accurate cell division. While the classical mechanism of kinetochore formation is now well understood, an alternative pathway—still shrouded in mystery—has recently been discovered in C. elegans. The components of this pathway also exist in humans and are often disrupted in certain diseases.
This project aims to better understand this alternative pathway. To do so, we will study how the various proteins involved interact with one another and test the effect of targeted modifications on their function, both in the worm and in human cells.
Your Profil
Skills
Potential candidates must hold a Ph.D. and have in-depth knowledge of cell biology and imaging, as well as expertise in the C. elegans model.
They must be able to lead a research project independently while contributing productively to the Cell Division and Reproduction team.
They must have excellent command of English and very strong scientific presentation skills.
Your Work Environment
The IJM is a joint research unit of the CNRS and Paris Cité University, comprising 30 research groups. It is a leading research center dedicated to basic research in biology, offering a multidisciplinary environment at the intersection of physics, mathematics, and medicine. The postdoctoral researcher will work within the Cell Division & Reproduction team under the supervision of the team leader.
