Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will participate in a cell biology research project aimed at elucidating the mechanisms that coordinate cilia beating in multiciliated cells.
Activity
The post is open for recruitment at the Institut Jacques Monod (IJM) within the 'Biogenesis and Polarity of Centrioles and Cilia' team led by Juliette Azimzadeh. The team studies the mechanisms that control the assembly and polarisation of centrioles and cilia using cell biology approaches, in particular super-resolution microscopy. This project forms part of the Unicil project (UNIty and diversity of MultiCILiary function, https://unicil.org/), led by a consortium of six research teams from across Europe and funded by a Wellcome Discovery Award. Unicil aims to uncover the fundamental biophysical principles governing the functioning of motile cilia at different scales, by combining state-of-the-art imaging techniques, genetics, cell biology, and physical and computational modelling. The aim of the proposed postdoctoral project within Juliette Azimzadeh's team is to elucidate the role of conserved centriole components involved in centriole polarisation, as identified by the team (Basquin et al., Dev. Cell 2019; Gaudin et al., eLife 2022; Boumendjel et al., BioRxiv 2026). This project will involve super-resolution fluorescence microscopy techniques, in particular expansion microscopy, and image analysis, to study the polarisation of multiciliated epithelia using the marine worm Macrostomum lignano as a model organism.
Your Profil
Skills
Potential candidates must hold a PhD and have a strong background in cell biology and cell imaging. They must be able to lead a research project independently whilst contributing productively to an international consortium. They must have an excellent knowledge of English and strong scientific presentation skills.
Your Work Environment
The IJM is a joint research unit of the CNRS and Paris Cité University, comprising around thirty research groups. It is a leading research centre dedicated to fundamental research in biology, offering a multidisciplinary environment at the interface with physics, mathematics and medicine. The postdoctoral researcher will be required to work regularly with other members of the Unicil consortium (University of Exeter, Imperial College London, University of Heidelberg, University of Edinburgh, Institute of Developmental Biology in Marseille).
