Job Description

Missions

A one-year postdoctoral research position (renewable) to study the role and mechanism of action of a gene that we recently demonstrated, when inactivated, prevents blastocyst development in mice.

Activity

The successful candidate will combine transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses with labelling, genome editing, embryo culture, and real-time imaging techniques to characterise the molecular defects associated with the phenotype and to identify effectors acting downstream of the gene of interest, as well as their direct targets.
In this role, the candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting experiments
- Quantitatively analysing results
- Communicating results
- Writing reports and contributing to the drafting of articles

Your Profil

Skills

- Ph.D. in developmental biology or cell biology
- Ability to work independently as part of a collaborative project
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Previous experience studying mouse embryos or analysing single-cell omics data is a plus, but not a requirement.

Your Work Environment

This position is available as part of a collaborative project funded by the ANR. The other project partners are the teams led by Claire Chazaud (iGRED, Clermont-Ferrand) and Jean-Léon Maître (Institut Curie, Paris). The collection of the cells needed to generate omics data is expected to be carried out collaboratively by staff from all three teams.
The position is to be filled within the “Regulation of Cell Fate Specification” team at the Institut Jacques Monod (http://www.ijm.cnrs.fr). The IJM is a joint research unit of the CNRS and Université Paris Cité, comprising 27 research teams and approximately 350 people (researchers, technicians, students, and support staff). The IJM is housed in a modern university building on the Paris Rive Gauche campus in Paris's 13th arrondissement and is accessible by all modes of transportation (Metro Line 14, RER C, Tram T3, buses 62 and 89, bicycle, etc.).

Constraints and risks

The position involves experimental work in a biology laboratory. Activities may include handling common reagents and chemicals, as well as using microscopy systems that may include intense light sources or lasers.
The associated risks are those typically encountered in this type of experimental environment. They are managed through mandatory training, the laboratory's current safety procedures, the use of personal protective equipment, and guidance from experienced team members.
