A post-doctoral Research Scientist position is open in the « Metabolism and function of nuclear RNA » team directed by Domenico Libri at the l'Institut Jacques Monod (CNRS / Université de Paris, Paris, France - www.ijm.fr/, https://rebrand.ly/Librilab) for a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate ready to share with us the thrill of understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying gene expression and genome maintenance.

Our team studies the molecular mechanisms of transcription and gene expression in general using yeast a model system. We are most particularly interested in non-coding, pervasive transcription, with a marked focus on the mechanisms of initiation and termination of transcription. In this framework we are also interested in the relationships between transcription and replication. We address these questions with biochemical, molecular biology and genomic approaches.


The successful candidate will work under the scientific direction of Domenico Libri, and will:

- participate in the design of the project,
- use and develop methodologies,
- carry out experiments,
- analyze and communicate the data,
- write reviews and research articles.

The candidate will use a wide range of techniques, going from biochemistry (purification of recombinant proteins, in vitro transcription assays, proteomic analyses) to genomics, using yeast and cultured human cells as a model.


The applicants should hold a PhD and have a strong training in biochemistry, molecular biology and genomics. Expertise in genetics and basic knowledge of some bioinformatic tools (e.g. Galaxy) would be welcome. It is also essential that the candidates have a solid publication history and be able to carry on autonomously a research project, at the level of experiment planning and execution, and article writing. The candidate must be rigorous, have excellent organizational and teamwork skills and be able to use the English language, both orally and in writing (knowledge of French is not required).

Work Context

The Institut Jacques Monod (IJM), which is housed in a building of 1800 square meters, located on the new campus of the Paris left bank urban project, is one of the main centers of fundamental research in biology in Paris and offers a multidisciplinary research environment. The IJM brings together thirty research groups working on cell and developmental biology, biophysics and genomics. The postdoctoral researcher will benefit from an extremely stimulating scientific environment, and will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities (live-cell imaging, proteomics, genomics), located at the IJM.

Additional Information

The contract is a 12-month fixed-term contract financed by the FRM (Fondation pour la recherche médicale) with a possibility of an additional 12-months extension. The position is to be filled in principle from April 1st 2020 but the starting date is flexible.
