Job Description

Missions

The research project aims to elucidate how electron-phonon interactions, spin-orbit coupling, magnetic doping, and band topology influence the Seebeck, Nernst, and spin-related thermoelectric effects. The theoretical predictions will directly support experimental efforts by providing guidance for material synthesis, interpretation of transport measurements, and by identifying optimal doping strategies.

Activity

On a selection of materials with emerging thermo-magnetic properties:
- DFT simulation, mechanical stability, electronic properties, lattice vibration properties
- Electron-electron interaction beyond mean-field.
- Phonon-phonon interaction and lattice-driven thermal properties
- Electron-Phonon properties, Seebeck coefficient
- Inclusion of topological properties, spin-orbit coupling, band structure models.

Your Profil

Skills

- Theory of Solid State Physics
- Ab Initio theory and simulation
- Vibrational Lattice theory (Phonons)
- Lattice-Induced Thermal Conductivity
- Electron-Phonon Coupling

Your Work Environment

The Institute of Mineralogy, Materials Physics, and Cosmochemistry (IMPMC) is a joint research unit of Sorbonne University (SU/CNRS/IRD/MNHN) located at Sorbonne University in Paris. It is a multidisciplinary research center where more than 70 researchers work in the fields of condensed matter physics, materials science, nanotechnology, and Earth and life sciences, supported by a strong theoretical group. Heads: Dr. Michele Casula, Dr. Lorenzo Paulatto.
The research activity is conducted in collaboration with the Alaska Subedi group at the Center for Theoretical Physics (École Polytechnique, Saclay), where the contract may be extended for an additional 12 months, subject to agreement with the candidate and supervisors.
