Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will take part in the ANR project SIMODAS, whose overall aim is to study high-pressure salty ices using atomic-scale modeling techniques. In this project, the postdoctoral researcher will model the process of high-pressure salty ice formation using classical molecular dynamics calculations. In particular, the thermodynamics and kinetics associated with the formation of ice crystals incorporating a non-negligible salt amount will be studied. The postdoc will also develop and implement new machine learning approaches applied to thermodynamics.

Activities

The postdoc will contribute to various aspects of the project, such as:
- developing new theoretical and numerical approaches for determining the thermodynamics associated with a transformation
- carrying out molecular dynamics simulations
- developing codes for analyzing these simulations, based on existing tools developed at the host laboratory
- collaborating with other project participants
- writing publications and participating in conferences

Skills

Candidates must hold a PhD in physical chemistry or physics at the start of the project, and have research skills related to the project's theme and activities. A good experience in molecular simulation and/or machine learning is required, as well as a good knowledge of associated theoretical tools (statistical physics of liquids, ...; programming experience among: Python, Julia, C, C++, ...). A good command of spoken and written English is required.

Work Context

The IMPMC laboratory (Institut de Minéralogie, de Physique des Matériaux et de Cosmochimie) is a Joint Research Unit of CNRS, Sorbonne University, MNHN and IRD. It is located on the Pierre et Marie Curie campus in the center of Paris. About 200 researchers, professors, PhD students and postdocs work at IMPMC, and conduct research in the fields of mineralogy, materials physics, mineral-living interactions and cosmochemistry.
