Missions

The post-doc will participate in the development of the recently introduced Magnetic Helicoidal Dichroism (MHD) technique for investigating magnetic structures and their dynamics after an optical excitation. The postdoc will take part in the coordination of all experimental activities, including sample preparation and characterization, preparation of experiments at large scale facilities (HHG, Synchrotrons, FELs), data analysis and dissemination of results.

Activités

The project is mainly oriented towards experimental activities:
- Sample design (micromagnetic simulations), preparation (lithography, sputtering, patterning) and characterization (structural, magnetic and time-resolved analysis)
- XUV and X-ray MHD measurements at large scale facilities that are capable of providing X-OAM photon beams (notably, HHG-AttoLab, Soleil synchrotron, FERMI free-electron laser).
- Analysis of the magnetization structure and of its dynamics based on experimental data and MHD theoretical models.

Compétences

We look for candidates with a doctoral degree in physics or in a related field, highly motivated to learn and develop new techniques and experimental methods. Very good written and oral skills in English are required, and good skills in writing scientific publications will be highly valued.

Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following fields is required:
- growth and characterization of magnetic thin films and nano-objects
- magneto-optics
- ultra-fast magnetization dynamics
- x-ray spectroscopy

Experience in performing experiments at either laser or x-ray large-scale facilities will be considered a strong merit.

Expertise in programming for data analysis and/or acquisition and in presentation of scientific results should be outlined in the application.

Contexte de travail

At INSP (Institut des NanoSciences de Paris), which is part of the Sorbonne University Faculty of Sciences, we perform both basic and application-oriented research in different areas like, e.g., optics, communications, energy harvesting and spintronics (see webpage https://w3.insp.upmc.fr/en/insp-en/).

The PostDoctoral project will be part of the ANR HELIMAG project, a collaboration implying several laboratories in France (AttoLab Saclay, Synchrotron Soleil, Institut d'Optique Orsay, Spintec Grenoble) as well as abroad (PSI Villigen, Sincrotrone Trieste, University of Nova Gorica).
The central topic of this collaboration is to investigate the use of photon beams (from visible to x-rays) carrying orbital angular momentum to study and manipulate magnetic structures.
