Missions

This project aims to use the magnetostrictive properties of ferromagnets to control the magnetic state of various systems with surface strain waves. In particular, you will be at the start of a project in which acoustic waves will be sent in skyrmion-hosting thin films to control the nucleation, propagation and annihilation of these compact spin textures. Exploiting this potentially resonant coupling, we are aiming to propose new spintronics devices combining the wave mechanics allowed by the weakly damped SAWs, with the field and frequency sensitivity of skyrmions. We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow to contribute to this project which has a strong experimental component.

Activités

You will design the acoustic wave exciting devices.
You will contribute to implementing a completely new rf set-up combined to state of the art Kerr microscopy.
You will adapt existing models of skyrmion motion to the physics of magnetostriction to find the optimum coupling conditions between skyrmion and strain waves, or use micromagnetic simulations.
You will also study surface acoustic wave driven FMR in various other systems.

Compétences

- knowledge of LabView/Python interfacing and/or rf electronics is desired
- experience with skyrmions would be a plus
- experience in ferromagnetic resonance would be good
-previous knowledge of acoustics would be a plus, but a background in magnetism is required

- a high appetance for experimental work is definitively required
- good habits of keeping track and sharing experimental and numerical results is desired as this is a multi-partner project

Contexte de travail

This post-doc position is part of a 4-year ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) ACOUSKYR project, in collaboration with LAF, SPINTEC, IJL, C2N and LSPM laboratories.
The INSP is located at the centre of Paris and has about 170 people working on a broad array of fields related to nanosciences: acoustics, spintronics, superconductivity, quantum optics, growth (MBE) etc. – http://www.insp.jussieu.fr/.
Our team has developed an expertise in magnetoacoustics on various systems, take a look at our webpage:

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

Short stays in partner labs (in particular Grenoble) will probably be required.
