Job Description
Missions
As part of the SCALE-ORG project, supported by the PSL Valorisation pre-maturation program, we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the development of a novel technology for functional imaging of the human retina at cellular resolution.
The project is based on optoretinography (ORG) using full-field optical coherence tomography (FFOCT), which enables non-invasive measurements of photoreceptor responses to light stimulation.
The objective is to advance this approach toward a prototype compatible with clinical imaging requirements, capable of providing robust and reproducible functional measurements, particularly for future applications in the investigation of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Activity
The successful candidate will contribute to the experimental and methodological developments of the project, including:
- Development, optimization, and characterization of an FFOCT imaging system for human optoretinography.
- Improvement of the robustness of image acquisition and functional measurements, particularly with respect to eye movements and interferometric fluctuations.
- Development and validation of algorithms for extracting functional photoreceptor responses.
- Development of quantitative methods for extracting reproducible biomarkers.
- Contribution to the integration of hardware and software developments into a prototype intended for future clinical validation.
- Analysis of experimental results and contribution to their scientific dissemination and publication.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidates must hold a PhD in physics, optics, photonics, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field.
The desired qualifications and skills include:
- Strong experience in experimental optics and/or optical imaging.
- Knowledge of interferometry, OCT, microscopy, or coherent imaging techniques.
- Experience in data analysis and scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent).
- Ability to design, conduct, and analyze experiments independently.
- Interest in biomedical imaging and the development of optical instrumentation for translational applications.
- Good scientific communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Previous experience in retinal imaging, adaptive optics, or interferometric signal processing would be an advantage.
Your Work Environment
The project will be carried out at Institut Langevin (CNRS, ESPCI Paris – PSL), in Paris, within a research team developing innovative optical imaging methods for high-resolution, in vivo imaging of the human retina.
SCALE-ORG is part of a technology transfer initiative aimed at bridging the gap between cellular-resolution functional imaging techniques and clinical applications in ophthalmology.
The research will build on existing experimental imaging systems and methodological developments, as well as the team's established clinical collaborations.
Constraints and risks
Experimental work involving optical and laser systems, in compliance with the laboratory's safety procedures. Any human imaging experiments will be conducted in accordance with the applicable ethical approvals, authorizations, and procedures.
