Job Description

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will develop and exploit advanced optical imaging methods based on Full-Field Optical Coherence Tomography (FF-OCT) to investigate the functional activity of retinal neurons in the living human retina, including photoreceptors and retinal ganglion cells.

Within the framework of the ERC MIRACLE-AD project, the goal is to extract neuronal functional signals from high-speed volumetric OCT data in order to better understand retinal neurophysiology and identify novel optical biomarkers related to neurodegenerative diseases.

The postdoctoral researcher will also contribute to improving data acquisition and analysis methods in order to optimize the sensitivity of functional retinal imaging.

Activity

The main activities will include:

Developing and implementing FF-OCT imaging protocols for functional retinal imaging in vivo in humans

Contributing to the instrumental optimization of the OCT imaging system (acquisition parameters, stability, calibration)

Developing advanced image processing and analysis methods to extract neuronal functional signals from high-speed volumetric OCT datasets

Analyzing complex volumetric datasets, including phase-based signals and temporal fluctuations

Participating in in vivo imaging experiments on human subjects, in collaboration with clinicians

Publishing results in international peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at scientific conferences

Contributing to the supervision of Master students or PhD students involved in the project

Your Profil

Skills

Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, optics, biomedical imaging, or a related field.

Required expertise:

Strong experience in retinal optical imaging

Expertise in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), ideally Full-Field OCT

Experience with functional retinal imaging or optical signal extraction from neural tissue

Advanced skills in image processing and volumetric data analysis

Proficiency in scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)

Experience handling and analyzing large experimental datasets

Additional desirable skills:

Knowledge of coherent optical imaging and interferometric techniques

Experience with in vivo human imaging

Experience analyzing OCT phase signals or optical functional signals

Personal qualities:

Scientific autonomy

Strong experimental rigor

Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment

Your Work Environment

The position is based at the Institut Langevin (ESPCI Paris – PSL / CNRS), a leading research laboratory in optics and biomedical imaging.

The postdoctoral researcher will join a multidisciplinary team composed of physicists, engineers, clinicians, and PhD students, within the ERC MIRACLE-AD project, which focuses on investigating neuronal and neurovascular mechanisms in the human retina.
