Missions

The DAMIC-M group at the LPNHE is seeking outstanding candidates for a three year (2+1) postdoctoral position starting as early as September 1st 2019. DAMIC-M (DArk Matter In CCDs at Modane) is a direct-detection experiment with unprecedented sensitivity to light dark matter particles. It employs Charge Coupled Devices (CCDs) to search for nuclear and electron recoils induced by dark matter particles in the silicon bulk of the CCDs. The experiment will be installed at the Laboratoire Souterrain
de Modane, France.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in experimental physics, preferentially in the area of particle or astroparticle physics. Previous experience with low-background detector calibration and Geant4 simulations will be positively evaluated.

This postdoctoral position is funded through a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant hosted by the DAMIC-M group at LPNHE.

Activities

The successful candidate will focus on calibrations, configuration and optimization of the readout sequences, on leakage current measurements, and onn the evaluation of radioactive and cosmogenic background noise whithin GEANT-4 simulations.

Skills

The candidate should have a PhD in Particle Physics, Astrophysics or Cosmology.

Work Context

The LPNHE (Laboratory of Nuclear Physics and High Energy, https://lpnhe.in2p3.fr/) is a laboratory of IN2P3 (National Institute of Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics), an institute of the CNRS, and universities "Sorbonne University" and "University of Paris". The laboratory is located in Paris (France). It is involved in major international collaborations in the fields of particle physics, astroparticles and cosmology. It has 130 researchers, teacher-researchers and administrative, technical and permanent engineers.

Currently, LPNHE's DAMIC-M group is involved in the development of the CCD test benches, the development of the readout electronics and the simulation of background within the GEANT-4 framework. The group consists of 3 permanent researchers, 3 PhD students and a substential technical staff support (4 FTE).
