Job Description
Missions
Redox reactions are involved in fundamental fields as diverse as energy and biology. During the life cycle of a virus, the redox potential of its environment undergoes significant fluctuations. A study under dynamic conditions of the subtle variations in the surface chemistry of viruses in a controlled redox environment, mimicking the different stages of a virus's life cycle, would enable a better understanding of viral infection mechanisms. We propose to establish a new methodology for studying the surface chemistry of viruses, leveraging the laboratory's expertise in: (1) electro-assisted assembly of nano-objects at liquid-liquid interfaces; (2) their use for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) measurements; and (3) the study of the surface properties of bacteriophages as a model for viruses.
Activity
The hired person will be responsible for:
-the study of charge transfer at liquid-liquid interfaces;
- the electro-assisted assembly of nano-objects (metallic nanoparticles and viral particles) at liquid-liquid interfaces;
- in situ and real-time spectro-electrochemical study of nano-object assemblies;
- supervising interns;
- writing reports and scientific articles.
Your Profil
Skills
The candidate must be highly motivated by research work, independent, and hold a PhD in physical chemistry, ideally with experience in techniques combining electrochemistry and spectroscopy, or in analytical electrochemistry. Experience in microbiology or with biological molecules will be appreciated. Proficiency in French or English (both written and oral) will be essential.
Your Work Environment
The LCPME (UMR 7564, www.lcpme.ul.cnrs.fr) is a multidisciplinary research unit affiliated with the CNRS and the Université de Lorraine. It currently brings together 75 permanent and non-permanent members. The LCPME conducts research aimed at better understanding the reactivity of surfaces and interfaces that play a crucial role in the fields of water, the environment, and materials. The unit combines expertise in physical chemistry and microbiology. The LCPME holds a unique global position in this field, as all the necessary expertise for the success of this project—virology, Raman spectroscopy coupled with electrochemistry at liquid-liquid interfaces—is gathered within a single research unit. The proposed project is based on a multidisciplinary working group that integrates the laboratory's various areas of expertise: electrochemistry at liquid-liquid interfaces, Raman spectroscopy, and virology. The research will be conducted as part of a CNRS Explore project.
