Job Description

Missions

The objective of this postdoctoral project is to characterize composite catalytic materials based on low-melting-point metals, developed within the framework of the ANR-funded LIZA project (Liquid Metals for Stable Zeolite Catalysis).
The candidate will employ the advanced electron microscopy techniques available at the IPCMS laboratory to investigate the structural and chemical characteristics of these innovative catalytic materials, as well as their evolution under thermal treatment and reaction conditions. The work will involve the use of state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopes, together with advanced data acquisition and analysis methodologies, to achieve high-resolution characterization of their structure and chemical composition.
The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the other partners of the LIZA consortium, who are responsible for zeolite synthesis, complementary physicochemical characterization, and catalytic performance evaluation. The postdoctoral researcher will therefore contribute to a multidisciplinary effort aimed at establishing structure–property relationships and advancing the understanding of these novel catalytic systems.

Activity

Perform electron microscopy analyses, including transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and in situ TEM.
Conduct structural, morphological, and chemical characterization of metal–zeolite composite materials.
Collaborate closely with the project partners within the LIZA consortium.
Contribute to the development of physicochemical models to interpret the experimental results.
Prepare scientific reports and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

Your Profil

Skills

Strong background in materials characterization.
Hands-on experience with electron microscopy techniques, particularly transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
Knowledge of zeolitic materials and/or catalytic materials is highly desirable.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Excellent scientific communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to work independently, with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and scientific rigor.

Your Work Environment

The selected candidate will join the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS), a joint research unit of the CNRS and the University of Strasbourg. More specifically, they will be integrated into the “Nanomaterials and Electron Microscopy” group within the “Surfaces and Interfaces” department, as well as the associated experimental platform, under the supervision of Prof. O. Ersen.
The expertise of the group lies in the investigation of materials and physico-chemical systems using advanced in situ approaches, both under gas and liquid environments, as well as three-dimensional reconstruction through electron tomography. The experimental platform is equipped with dedicated in situ sample holders for electron microscopy enabling experiments in gas and liquid environments, and operates three state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopes: a JEOL 2100, a JEOL 2100F, and a JEOL Grand ARM2.
The postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with the members of the group and the platform staff, and will interact regularly with other researchers involved in the ANR LIZA project.
The IPCMS is located on the Cronenbourg campus in Strasbourg, approximately 20 minutes from the city center by public transport (bus line G). The campus includes a staff restaurant available to research personnel.
