Job Description

Missions

Phosphorescent transition metal complexes (TMCs) possess attractive properties, including exceptional photophysical and electrochemical characteristics, highly tunable emission colors, and relatively long-lived excited states. The project focuses on the photophysical and theoretical characterization of TMCs based on d8 and d10 metals—such as Pt(II), Au(III), and Au(I)—as well as their supramolecular assembly via metallophilic interactions. The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Prof. Matteo Mauro (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Stéphane Bellemin-Laponnaz, in collaboration with Dr. Christophe Gourlaouen, as part of the ANR QUINOC project. The QUINOC project aims to quantify the energetics of metal-ligand interactions across various families of metal complexes and their supramolecular assemblies.

Activity

- Characterize photoactive complexes using optical spectroscopy techniques such as UV-Vis, steady-state fluorescence, and time-resolved fluorescence in solution, in the solid state, and at low temperatures.
- Characterize photoactive complexes using computational approaches (DFT and TD-DFT).

Your Profil

Skills

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate holding a PhD in Chemical Sciences/Molecular Chemistry (or equivalent) with:
- solid experience in photoactive compounds; - solid experience in steady-state and time-resolved optical spectroscopy (UV-Vis absorption, emission, lifetimes, quantum yields) at variable temperatures;
- excellent written and oral communication skills in English (minimum B2 level). The candidate should also possess the following skills:
- ability to write experimental reports;
- ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary and international environment;
- a curious mindset.
An experience in computational chemistry (DFT) applied to the study of photoactive compounds would be an asset.

Your Work Environment

The recruited researcher will conduct their work within the Organic Materials Department (DMO) of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Materials of Strasbourg (IPCMS), in collaboration with UMR 7140 (Dr. Christophe Gourlaouen). The IPCMS is an interdisciplinary joint research unit (University of Strasbourg – CNRS) comprising five departments and approximately 240 employees, including around 80 researchers and faculty members and 60 technical staff members. A renowned research center in the fields of nanomaterials, nanoscience, and functional materials, the IPCMS is located on the Cronenbourg campus in Strasbourg. The Cronenbourg campus features on-site dining facilities and is easily accessible via public transport.
