Missions

This recruitment is part of a prematuration project aimed at developing new organic dyes for use in organic light-emitting diodes.
The successful candidate will have two main tasks:
1/ to design, synthesise and characterise these molecules
2/ characterise their photophysical properties (in solution and in the solid state).
We are looking for a highly motivated research engineer with a PhD in Chemical Sciences / Molecular Chemistry (or equivalent) and solid experience in organic synthesis and spectroscopy of photo-active systems.
The candidate should be able to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment and have a positive attitude based on curiosity. Very good written and oral communication skills in English are required (B2).

Activities

- Synthesising organic dyes
- Improve synthesis procedures
- NMR characterisation of these organic dyes
- Characterise their photophysical properties (absorption/fluorescence)
- Present the results in a didactic way
- Discuss the results internally and with collaborators

Skills

Skills in organic synthesis and all purification techniques are required.
Knowledge on photophysics would be appreciated.
Skills in synthesising, presenting and sharing results are also expected.
Ability to use chemical purification techniques (chromatography, HPLC, GC-MS).
Ability to write experiment reports
Use chemical and spectroscopic characterisation techniques (mono- and multidimensional NMR)
Be able to use optical spectroscopy techniques (UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence, etc.)
Ability to work independently
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multinational context
Communication in English (oral and writing): minimum B2 level (referring to the european standart)

Work Context

The successful candidate will join the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS-UMR 7504) CNRS - Université de Strasbourg, more specifically the Department of Organic Materials (DMO) alongside the Scottish partner on the subject. He or she will work closely with the members of the Photophysics and Photonics for Organic Electronics team to carry out photophysical characterisations on the optical characterisation platform.
He or she will take part in the team's two monthly group meetings as well as the presentation and discussion meetings with our Scottish collaborator planned (on a bimonthly basis) as part of this collaborative project.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

Traditional chemical risks
Risks associated with chemical synthesis, chemical handling and laser/LED irradiation.

Additional Information

This post is funded by CNRS innovation, which promotes the role of women in science. Applications from women are strongly encouraged.

The candidate (M/F) must provide a covering letter, a detailed CV including a list of grades and the contact details of one (or two) reference(s).
