Job Description
Missions
The candidate will participate in the COOL project, which develops multidisciplinary approaches combining physics, electrophysiology, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and functional analyses to understand how ions emitted by root cells and/or pathogens, via specific transporters and/or channels, contribute to pathogen attraction and aggregation. Within this highly collaborative project, the candidate will focus on two tasks: (i) characterizing the channels present in the membrane of root extracts and oomycete extracts; and (ii) establishing a method for measuring pH on live roots.
Activity
The candidate's main task will have two objectives:
- They will primarily use the Nanion Orbit Mini system to reconstitute and measure channels in artificial lipid bilayers in order to characterize the channels of root membranes and oomyctes.
- They will establish a method for measuring pH on living roots using the equipment available in the laboratory: a fluorescence videomicroscopy set and a fluorescence microplate reader.
Your Profil
Skills
Candidates must hold a PhD in biology/biochemistry and/or biophysics and demonstrate an interest in membrane biology. Experience with membrane transport proteins, biochemistry, electrophysiology, or real-time video microscopy is an asset, as is a strong motivation for learning and developing new methods. Experience in bioinformatics, biophysics, or electrophysiology would also be an advantage. Fluency in French is not required. A high level of autonomy is expected.
Your Work Environment
The Molecular Physio-Medicine Laboratory at the Pasteur Campus in Nice is participating in a project (ANR, COOL 2023-2027) entitled "Characterization of the early dialogue between host plants and pathogenic oomycetes: biological and physical approaches." This position is available within the Transport and Metabolism team, under the supervision of Mallorie Poet and Laurent Counillon. The Transport and Metabolism team aims to better understand ion transport, from molecular mechanisms to the physiological and pathological implications of these transports. We work on the main transporters that link pH regulation to metabolism, cell fate, and motility.
