Missions
The recruited postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the ANR-funded project HELP (Harnessing Elemental Sulfur in Polymer Chemistry). The mission is to develop a new class of sustainable sulfur-containing polymers using a multicomponent strategy. This work aims to upcycle elemental sulfur (S₈) - a by-product of the petrochemical industry - into functional, cost-effective polymeric materials with advanced applications, particularly in sensors and electronics.
Activités
Main Activities:
• Design and optimization of multicomponent polymerization reactions involving elemental sulfur.
• Synthesis of homo- and co-polymers using both conventional and partially renewable diamine monomers.
• Structural and functional characterization of polymeric materials (e.g., NMR, FTIR, TGA, DSC, GPC, rheometry, UV-Vis, fluorescence).
• Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams in organic synthesis, materials science, and advanced instrumentation.
• Preparation of scientific publications and reports for the ANR project.
• Participation in knowledge transfer activities and scientific communication.
Compétences
• PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Materials Science (completed).
• Demonstrated expertise in synthetic polymer chemistry and/or redox-active organic reactions.
• Proficiency in materials characterization techniques.
• Experience with sustainable chemistry concepts and valorization of industrial by-products is a strong asset.
• Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Excellent communication skills in English (French is a plus, but not mandatory).
Contexte de travail
The position is based at the Institut de Science des Matériaux de Mulhouse (IS2M – UMR 7361, CNRS/Université de Haute-Alsace). The researcher will work under the supervision of Prof. Hatice Mutlu and Dr. Arnaud Spangenberg. The IS2M provides a stimulating and collaborative research environment with access to cutting-edge facilities, including:
• Microfabrication and flow chemistry platforms
• Advanced spectroscopic and microspectroscopic instrumentation
• Mat-Light infrastructures (robot-assisted synthesis, volumetric printing, spectrofluorimetry)
