The heart of the project, jointly developed by LHFA (UMR CNRS 5069) and IS2M (UMR CNRS 7361), is based on the concept of dual catalysis associating organocatalysis around phosphine P (III) with photoredox catalysis. This new concept is likely to open up interesting prospects for the generation of radicals from X – H derivatives possessing high binding energy. The systems identified as being the most efficient during these studies will be evaluated as photoinitiators of the polymerization reaction.

The main contributions of the contractual researcher will be: development and optimization of the reactivity of photosensitive resins, followed by polymerization by different experimental techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (RT-FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry ( photo-DSC), photorheology and others to be defined according to the evolution of the project. This research work will also be accompanied by a study and a detailed characterization of the final properties of the polymers and composites obtained from a chemical, optical and mechanical point of view. All the experimental data collected It will also be necessary to compare with current references.
The recruited student must have skills for teamwork, as well as ensuring exchanges and follow-up with the academic partner (e.g. participation in the drafting of reports, presentations, etc.).


Main tasks :
- Development and optimization of the reactivity of photosensitive resins
- Polymerization monitoring by different experimental techniques.
- Evaluation of the final properties of polymers.

Secondary tasks:
- Familiarization with other material characterization techniques present at IS2M. The candidate can find additional information on the technical platforms available within the institute (www.is2m.uha.fr).

Work Context

This contractual research work will be carried out at IS2M.

The Mulhouse Materials Science Institute (IS2M) is a joint CNRS-University of Haute-Alsace research unit (UMR 7361). Due to its multidisciplinary character, its scientific impact and its interactions with other fields, the laboratory constitutes one of the structuring forces of the landscape of materials and their applications in the academic and industrial world, both at regional and national level. IS2M has been able to define its identity and acquire undeniable visibility in the highly competitive international research landscape.

IS2M owes its fame to the excellence of its research, to the scientific influence of its Researchers and Teacher-Researchers and to the great professionalism of the research support staff. It also owes it to the attractiveness of the training courses in which the Teacher-Researchers are involved and to the professional success of its Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students.

The general objective of the Institute is to advance the knowledge front in the field of materials.

The contractual researcher will be integrated into the CRM team within IS2M, led by Prof. Jacques Lalevée, specialized in the study of the photopolymerization reaction where all the experimental techniques mentioned above are accessible.
