Job Description
Missions
-The post-doctoral fellow will have the task of characterizing samples of demantoid garnet, particularly those from Type I and Type II deposits, using several analytical techniques (microscopy, diffraction, spectroscopy, etc.). This work aims to identify the mineralogical and chemical signatures associated with different formation conditions, as well as the presence of variable water contents in the structure of these nominally anhydrous minerals. He or she will also be responsible for analyzing the variations of the mesh parameter a, as well as the symmetry reductions from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. A good knowledge of crystallography and a mastery of the group/sub-group relationships between groups of possible spaces is necessary for the processing of diffraction data.
Activity
- Mineral characterization and analysis (FTIR, UV-VIS, EMPA, LA-ICP, etc.)
- Single crystal X-ray diffraction and electronic diffraction
- Optical transmission microscopy
- Data processing, analysis, and interpretation
- Presentation of results at international congresses and writing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals
Your Profil
Skills
- Mastery of various analytical techniques in mineralogy
- Strong knowledge of crystallography, as well as mineralogy
- Ability to conduct a research project independently
- Ability to integrate into a team and collaborate with researchers from various disciplines
- Scientific rigor, motivation and initiative
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Your Work Environment
The Petrographic and Geochemical Research Center (CRPG, UMR 7358), located in Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy, in the Grand Est region, is a geoscience research laboratory associated with both the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Lorraine (UL) (https://crpg.univ-lorraine.fr/). The recruited person will interact at the CRPG with research support staff from other UL laboratories to acquire data on experimental techniques that are missing from the CRPG. Numerous interactions are planned with members of the research group of the crystallography laboratory (CRM2).
