Job Description
Missions
As part of the ERC-CoG-2022 project “IRONIS” (PI: Evelyn Füri, 2023–2028; https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101087562), the postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for characterizing metal-rich meteorites, particularly primitive achondrites, using scanning electron microscopy and electron microprobe analysis. This work aims to identify mineralogical and chemical signatures associated with the earliest stages of planetesimal differentiation. The researcher will also be responsible for analyzing nitrogen and other volatile elements (H, C and/or noble gases) in samples using the ion microprobe techniques and/or noble gas mass spectrometry. These analyses will help improve our understanding of how these elements behave during the differentiation of early planetary bodies and assess their distribution in the protoplanetary disk. The results will provide key insights into the origin and evolution of volatile elements, essential to the emergence of life on Earth, while enhancing our understanding of the processes involved in the formation of the first planetesimals in the solar system.
Activity
- Characterization and analysis of meteorites using scanning electron microscopy and electron microprobe
- Elemental and isotopic analyses using the ion microprobe and/or noble gas mass spectrometry
- Data processing, analysis, and interpretation
- Presentation of results at international conferences and publication of scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals
Your Profil
Skills
- Proficiency in various analytical techniques in geochemistry (scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe, ion microprobe, noble gas mass spectrometry)
- Strong knowledge in cosmochemistry and/or planetary science, as well as isotopic geochemistry and petrology/petrography
- Ability to conduct research projects independently
- Ability to work within a team and collaborate with researchers from different disciplines
- Scientific rigor, motivation, and initiative
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both French and English
Additional Information
Applicants must submit a CV (maximum 4 pages) and provide contact details for two referees via the CNRS recruitment website. Contact: Dr. Evelyn Füri (evelyn.furi@univ-lorraine.fr)
Your Work Environment
The Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG, UMR 7358), located in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy (Grand Est region), is a geosciences research laboratory jointly affiliated with the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and the University of Lorraine (https://crpg.univ-lorraine.fr/). The postdoctoral researcher will interact with researchers and technical staff at CRPG, particularly on the “LG-SIMS-Nancy ion probe” and “Noble Gas Mass Spectrometry” platforms, as well as with researchers and students in the “Cosmochemistry and Planetology” group. They will have access to a wide range of analytical equipment. Numerous interactions are planned with members of the ERC IRONIS project, led by Evelyn Füri (Research Director, CNRS).
