Job Description
Missions
This position is hosted within the "Environmental Pollutants, Neurotoxicity, and Neuro-inflammation" team at UMR7355-INEM (Immuno-NEuro Modulation, Orléans, France). We are seeking an early-career biologist researcher with strong expertise in cellular neurobiology and advanced cellular models (murine and/or human 2D/3D cultures) to join an interdisciplinary project at the interface of biology and chemistry. The project, entitled NiNA ("Lanthanide-based Near-infrared imaging agents associated with human iPSC-derived microglia for the study of Neuroinflammation in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis") and funded by the ANR, aims to evaluate and apply novel near-infrared (NIR) imaging agents for the improved in vitro characterization of microglial cells in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Initial contract duration is 13 months, extendable for an additional 11 months.
Activity
- Evaluate the efficacy, bioavailability, and biocompatibility of in cellulo labeling using NIR imaging agents across various 2D/3D culture systems (conventional and near-infrared fluorescence microscopy, microglial functional evaluation, immunocytochemistry, etc.).
- Implement 2D/3D NIR live-cell video microscopy of labeled cells.
- Perform standard analytical assays: immunocytochemistry, ELISA, multiplex assays.
- Contribute closely with partners to technology transfer involving the manipulation of ALS patient-derived iPSCs.
- Following validation, apply the established procedures to advanced cellular models derived from ALS patients.
- Data management and reproducibility: document methods and results, contribute to project organization and dataset traceability.
- Provide strong intellectual input into project execution and development.
- Draft scientific publications and prepare presentations for seminars and scientific conferences.
Your Profil
Skills
- Ph.D. in Cellular Biology, with solid expertise in complex 2D/3D models and a strong interest in neuroinflammation.
- Proven ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary project and foster active scientific collaborations.
- Scientific autonomy, motivation, critical thinking, and aptitude for working in close collaboration with biologists and chemists/spectroscopists.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English, enabling effective presentation of results and contribution to writing scientific publications.
- Ability to supervise students.
Desirable Qualifications (Non-mandatory):
- In-depth proficiency with image analysis software and microscopy tools.
Your Work Environment
The INEM laboratory (https://www.inem.cnrs.fr/) is a dynamic research unit dedicated to immunology and neurobiology, comprising 40 members including 15 fixed-term researchers and Ph.D. students. The postdoctoral researcher will join the "Environmental Pollutants, Neurotoxicity, and Neuro-inflammation" team under the scientific supervision of Dr. Arnaud Menuet (Associate Professor-HDR, PI of the NiNA project).
The candidate will contribute to the NiNA project in close collaboration with team members involved in the project (1 professors, 1 associate-professor, 1 technician, and 1 assistant engineer), as well as project partners at CBM (CNRS UPR 430, Orléans) and ICM (Paris). The recruited candidate will have access to INEM facilities (conventional and biosafety Level 2 cell culture rooms, imaging, and standard lab equipment), privileged access to CBM's NIR imaging system, and the expertise of ICM regarding advanced human cell models.
Constraints and risks
- Work in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) containment environment (cell culture).
- Handling of biological and chemical reagents.
- Risks associated with laboratory equipment (centrifuges, lasers, etc.).
