The “Centre de Physique des particules de Marseille” (CPPM) is offering a position to work on the software development of the Euclid mission.


Euclid is a telescope dedicated to understand the acceleration of the expansion of the Universe from the observation of 15000 deg2 of the sky in the visible and near infrared domains. Euclid is an international project of the European Space Agency (ESA) scheduled to be launched in 2023.
Euclid data analysis is challenging and requires the development of software and its integration into dedicated pipelines in a complex computing framework. For the preparation of those pipelines in Euclid, we develop large specific simulations based on mock catalogs and integrated into on a specific simulation pipeline.
The Euclid team at CPPM works on developing simulations software and pipeline. CPPM is lead of the development of the simulation images of the NISP Spectro-Photometer where the team has large contributions and responsibilities.
The candidate will work on the Euclid computing framework and will be in charge of the development of the NISP spectroscopic simulator and its evolutions with the knowledge of the instrument model. He/She will participate to the development and integration of this software into the Euclid computing framework.
The contract can start immediately for a duration of 1 year, with the possibility of extension up to 3 years.


The candidate must have:
• A degree in Physics, Astrophysics or computing high school.
• Strong experience with software development and computing
• Strong knowledge of programming languages C/C++/Python
• Good knowledge of Linux /Unix operating system and virtual machines.
• Good skill in English language
• Ability to work within an international team.

 An experience in simulations and data reduction in the astronomy/cosmology domains will be considered.

Work Context

CPPM, the Marseille Particle Physics Centre is a Joint Research Unit (UMR 7346). The laboratory is part of the Institut national de physique nucléaire et de physique des particules (IN2P3), under the joint supervision of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Aix-Marseille University.

The research conducted at CPPM is at the crossroads of two infinites; ranging from the study of the elementary components of matter - the infinitely small - to the exploration of the cosmos - the infinitely large. To follow these we design and build state-of-the-art detector systems, often required to operate under extreme conditions: deep under the sea, in space or underground. Most of our research is carried out within leading international scientific collaborations and our contributions are recognized worldwide. We participate in the training of young people for research careers, directly through our research programs and also through their university education. Our laboratory is also very active in promoting technological developments resulting from its research.
