Missions

Optimization of a two-equation model recently developed in the team for turbulent transport in tokamak on-board plasmas in order to improve the predictive capacities of the SOLEDGE2D-EIRENE code for the operation of ITER.

Activities

- analysis of the underlying theoretical hypotheses based on the study of available numerical and experimental databases
- optimal calibration of the free parameters of the model from a scale law
- introduction to data assimilation by means of optimization algorithm
- comparison of simulation results with experimental measurements on the CEA WEST machine

Skills

Applicants must have knowledge of the finite element method or a related field in applied mathematics and / or computational fluid mechanics. Experiences on code development, HPC architectures and parallel programming will be appreciated.

Work Context

This work is part of the preparation of the ITER operation, as well as the support for experiments carried out on the tokamak of CEA, WEST through the development of an advanced simulation tool based on a reduced two-dimensional model in order to guarantee short restitution times enabling the wide range of control parameters envisaged for my experiments to be scanned. The objective is to improve the predictive capacity of the SOLEDGE2D-EIRENE code by working on a more efficient modeling of turbulent transport perpendicular to the magnetic field lines. This work is part of a collaboration of more than 10 years between the M2P2 and the IRFM at CEA Cadarache.
The position will be based at M2P2.
