Missions

The project CARADET aims at designing a prototype of a particle detector for tritium detection. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate good communication skills to be able to coordinate the main actors of the project and pool all the results to optimize the sensor design.
He/she will be responsible for assembling the various parts of the sensor (cooling system, vacuum, circuit, detector) for radiation testing and analysis.

Activités

The project CARADET aims at designing a prototype of a particle detector for tritium detection. Based on previous work by the team involved in the project on neutron detection by silicon carbide (SiC)-based sensors and on preliminary calculations which highlight the difficulty to detect this type of particles (very low emission rate per second), a specific sensor equipped with a liquid nitrogen cooling system will initially be developed in co-prematuration with the startup Siclade Technologies. Several test campaings will then be carried out at CEA's Institut de Recherche sur la Fusion par confinement Magnétique (IRFM).

Compétences

We expect the candidate with an experimental profile to show the following skills:
- Knowledge of analog electronics (trans-impedance circuit, filters,…)
- Knowledge of signal processing (FPGA)
- Knowledge of semiconductor component manufacturing processes (etching, lithography,…)
- Knowledge of ionizing particle sensors
Experience of electrical measurements is desirable.
Experience of irradiation testing will be an advantage.

Contexte de travail

The young researcher will be part of the CARADET project, a CNRS co-prematuration project between Aix-Marseille University/CNRS on the one hand and the start-up Siclade Technologies on the other. The candidate will be based at the Institut Matériaux Microelectroniques Nanosciences de Provence (IM2NP) in Marseille but will be required to interact strongly with the various entities involved in the project (CEA Cadarache and Saclay, start-up SiClade technologies, IM2NP, CP2M Marseille).
