Job Description
Missions
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position (M/F) in algorithmic developments in lattice QCD and its applications to hadron phenomenology. The fellow will be expected to collaborate closely with CPT's Particle Theory team on projects aimed at improving our understanding of hadrons' structure. The main focus of the position would be to develop algorithms and code needed for the extraction of parton distributions (aiming both at PDFs and generalized PDFs (GPDs)). Moreover, the fellow will be expected to participate more widely in the activities of the Particle Theory team, as well as those of CPT.
Activity
The projects will involve a variety of activities. These include among others: lattice QCD software development for exascale supercomputers, novel algorithms for hadron structure. Close collaboration with our collaborators in France (CEA, Saclay) as well abroad (College of William & Mary and JLAB, USA) is also expected as well as participation in the sharing of the results with the scientific community and more widely, when relevant.
Your Profil
Skills
*) Expertise in High Performance computing and associated code development,
*) Expertise in algorithms for lattice QCD,
*) Good working knowledge of theoretical hadronic/nuclear/particle physics and lattice field theory,
*) Independence and ability to collaborate productively,
*) Strong written and oral communication skills,
*)Extremely Strong programming skills (C, C++, Python, bash etc.).
Your Work Environment
The work will take place in CPT's Particle Theory team of which the lattice QCD group is part. The latter consists of three permanent staff (Antoine Gérardin, Laurent Lellouch, Savvas Zafeiropoulos), five postdoctoral fellows and one PhD student. The wider Particle Physics team also has as members Aoife Bharucha, Jérôme Charles and Marc Knecht.
The position is funded by the recently-granted ERC Consolidator grant of Savvas Zafeiropoulos. The lattice work will be performed in the context of the Hadstruc collaboration.
The Consolidator ERC grant: HADaSTRaLS - From 1D to 3D Hadron Structure with exascale lattice QCD simulations, is awarded to Savvas Zafeiropoulos and will fund several postdoctoral and PhD positions for the next 5 years.
The Centre de Physique Théorique (CPT) is a research unit with about 60 permanent staff and around 40 PhD students and postdoctoral fellows performing theoretical research in a wide variety of fields. Aix-Marseille U. also has strong research units in experimental particle physics (CPPM) and in astrophysics, cosmology and astroparticle physics (CPPM, LAM).
